Five Cheapest Towns in Essex
Essex can be an expensive county to buy property in because of its popularity with London commuters. So we thought we would research the area to see where you may still be able to pick up affordable properties, especially for first time buyers. Please therefore see below for the 5 cheapest places to buy property in Essex, counting down from five to one.
Walton on the Naze
A three bedroom house can be bought in Walton on the Naze for only £220,000.
The Naze is in part a nature reserve which contains lots of migrating birds, so the area is very popular with bird watchers. Although the town does have a train station, the time to get into London takes 90 minutes, so this area is less popular with commuters keeping prices down.
Canvey Island
A similar house in Canvey Island will set you back on average £210,000.
Canvey Island is reclaimed land in the Thames Estuary. It has strong water defences but still has the risk of flooding in high tides. It does not have its own train station, the nearest one being at Southend.
Harwich
Third on our list is Harwich where on average a 3 bed place will cost £200,000. Indeed if you are looking to do a bit of work you may even pick one up for an little as £150,000, and with £300,000 to spend you may even pick up a 4 bedroom detached house.
This is a coastal town with a ferry port taking you to Holland and Denmark. As such it has good railway links, although the train journey to London takes about an hour an a half. This keeps it out of the preferred places for London commuters, keeping the prices down.
Colchester
Colchester comes in second on our list, where you can buy a three bedroom house for £180,000.
This is then oldest recorded roman town in Britain and was indeed the roman capital. Today it has good schools, shopping and leisure facilities and a commute into London is less than one hour.
Clacton On Sea
Coming in at number one as the cheapest place to buy property in Essex, is Clacton On Sea, where you can pick up a three bedroom house for a bargain £165,000.
Th town is popular with day trippers because of its sandy beach, and also comes with a pier. The town even has its own small airport. One negative is that it takes 90 minutes on the train to get into London, so is not popular with commuters, unless they are willing to be on a train for 3 hours each day.
